The conclusion of NICHE project on food innovation in Timisoara
On 2 September 2019, the event that took place in Timisoara, the seat of Timis County, marked the successful conclusion of NICHE project on innovation in the food sector.
NICHE is an initiative, authored by the Regional Development Agency of West Region, Romania, in which regional players from 7 countries with experience in stimulating agri-food development provide mutual support and exchange of good practices. The project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund, as part of the Interreg programme.
Dozens of representatives of the food sector took part on the event, which marked the longest and most fulfilling stage of the NICHE. During the event, the pilot project “Own Flavours” was presented. “Own Flavours” is a platform created by the Regional Development Agency of West Region to promote the products from local producers from the counties of Timiş, Arad, Caraş-Severin and Hunedoara.
The NICHE project proves how collaboration between actors in the food industry under the aid of EU Cohesion Fund can promote food innovation and smaller local initiatives. Through the project and after the implementation of the pilot platform, two main objectives will be realized: regional economic growth and promotion of diverse food cultures from traditional to innovative food practices.
