Second Mayors’ Professional Conference in Csongrád-Csanád

The second Mayors’ Professional Conference in Csongrád-Csanád County was held in June 30th and it was supported by the „Together for Cohesion” project of the Assembly of European Regions. The event took place on the TiszaRiver event boat. The main goal of the conference was for Mayors of the county’s municipalities to receive first hand information about current policy decisions that concern them.

The event had an 80% participation from the 60 invited Mayors. The welcoming speech was given by László Gémes, President of the General Meeting of Csongrád-Csanád County, who expressed how important it is that regional leaders participated and got information on new policies. The main part of the day was a series of presentations starting with Katalin Novák, Secretary of State for Family and Youth affairs, who spoke about current family policies. Dr. Péter Mikecz, Director of the Government Office of Csongrád-Csanád County, followed and gave a historical overview of the county with a focus on the change of the name.

In continuation, Gábor Oláh, the Deputy State Secretariat for Regional Development, introduced the urban development programme and the preparation for the next 6-year financial cycle. Alpár Gyopáros, Government Commissioner for Modern Urban Development, briefed the audience about the Hungarian Village Programme’s currently active and soon-to-be-revealed tendering operation. Finally Miklós Dukai, Deputy State Secretariat for Municipal Affairs, explained all the results stemming from the implementation of the new municipal law. The administration of the county have expressed their intention to continue this type of informative forums.
