Parc Agroalimentari Àgora

The Parc Agroalimentari Àgora manifests the employment and economic policies promoted by the Administration of Vilafranca’s Municipality in Alt Penedès comarca since the early 90s. The space was inaugurated in 1999 and it was initially designed to host entreprises from the wine sector as well as to be the headquarters of the Municipal Economic Promotion Service. It has then evolved to host 5 economic entities (UVIPE, the Regulatory Council of the DO Penedès, the Catalan Association of Oenologists, the JARC and the Sant Humbert Academy of Tastings) and facilitate annual events which bring together many entrepreneurs. It also acts as a business incubator. The Agora is now an important hub, which has contributed to the economic and social cohesion of the whole region.

The building of the space was co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). In order to continuously improve the functionality and to make it consistent to sustainability objectives, the Vilafranca City Council has applied to ERDF to receive further funding. This funding will be used to develop a Open Innovation Lab Incubator for the wine sector and to improve the Agora Centre for Entities and Companies.

Another building of the Oenology Station (one of the two in Catalonia) is designed in the public area. It has the capacity to provide a quality service to a growing sector and to include the General Directorate of INCAVI (the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine). It was decided that it would only be sold to companies related to the agro-food sector, trying to cause a synergistic effect in the rest of the surrounding plots.
