Csongrád County’s platform against climate change

Csongrád County has benefited from EU Cohesion Fund received thought the Széchenyi 2020 program. This programme runs for the 2014-2020 planning period and aims at ensuring the distribution of EU development funds in order for Hungary to remain competitive in the EU.

The grant received through the Széchenyi 2020 program amounted to HUF 30 million and Csongrád County used it for the establishment and operation of a climate strategy platform within the framework of the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Program. The project started on November 1, 2016, and it was completed on April 30, 2018.

The main objective of the platform was to design a document providing content, methodology and strategic suggestions on how to adapt to climate change and maintain energy sustainability. The document has been published at the website of Csongrád County here.

Many workshops and trainings for citizens and stakeholders took place as a part of the project. Especially owners of SMEs benefited from the strategy by getting information on how to deal with climate change and energy requirements of their businesses. Also, a drawing competition addressed to children and planting tree activities were organised, aiming at raising awareness at climate change and how to tackle its consequences.
