AlpGov: the important role of Trentino in the Alpine area

The Autonomous Province of Trento–or Trentino as it is widely known–is a partner of the AlpGov project which aims to support the effective and efficient implementation of the EUSALP Macro-regional Strategy through a systematic and transnational approach. The EUSALP goals are economic, social and territorial cohesion of the Alpine area, which is not only a touristic destination but also an important natural habitat.

Trentino leads the Action Group 3, which deals with training, education and the workforce. The Group is focused with the development of skills for young people and the facilitation of their transition from school to work. As Boglarka Fenyvesi-Kiss, leader of Action Group 3, affirms, young people are unmotivated to gain vocational skills and work in technical jobs so they choose to leave the area. However, this leads to depopulation and mismatch in the offer and demand of skilled workforce.

In order to tackle this, the Action Group is trying to understand the causes and systemic deficiencies in the Alpine Region, create efficient policies and invest in human capital. The main goal is the creation of a Common Vocational Education Area in the Alpine Region. Currently, the Group is responsible for partnering with the rest of the Action Groups for the creation of a collaborative digital environment and an E-Learning platform, something co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund with 249,220 Euros.
